2006 Syrah
The beginning of 2006 was ominous indeed with the New Years flood, but what followed was an outstanding and bountiful growing season. An intense heat spike in late August left us worried that the Syrah would ripen prematurely but moderate weather prevailed for the next five weeks and the grapes were allowed to hang until the end of September. The wine is full bodied and deep purple with complex aromas of blackberry jam, pie crust, blackcurrant, spices and a hint of roasted meat. The palate is full and complex with abundant yet balanced tannin. Flavors of blueberry pie, black currant, vanilla, coco butter with a suggestion of tobacco and spice mingle seductively on the tongue. This wine pairs superbly with game and savory dishes.
