Husch’s Zinfandel is harvested from the La Ribera Vineyards on the eastern bank of the Russian River. A portion of the vines, and we think the essence of the wine, comes from 55 year-old, gnarly, head-pruned vines that are part of the original plantings. These aged vines yield only two tons per acre but the resulting wine shows the wonderful complexity of old vine Zinfandel.

The cool vintage of 2011 gave rise to a slightly more elegant style of Zinfandel. Sampling the grapes in the vineyard was simply a treat! They were harvested by hand, than fermented in small open top fermenters. Once the primary fermentation was complete we transferred the wine to barrels for malolactic fermentation and nine months of French and American oak aging.

The elegant aromas of our 2011 Zinfandel include raspberry, plum, chocolate and white pepper. The wine has a refreshing mouth-feel with bright red and black fruits highlighting the flavor profile. Like all good wines there is a new point of interest with every sip. Enjoy with a beet salad, marinated steak, or any food that has earthiness or spice. It is also great with drier aged cheeses like manchego, dry jack, or asiago.
