2015 'Old Vines' Zinfandel
Husch’s Old Vine Zinfandel is grown at the historic Garzini Ranch in the warm Ukiah Valley. These gnarly, head pruned, old vines have low yields and intense flavors. Old Vine Zinfandel is one of Mendocino County’s treasures, and we are excited to showcase a part of what makes Mendocino County so special for grapes.
Growing conditions in 2015 were perfect for Zinfandel: dry and hot. Even in ideal conditions Zinfandel tends to be uneven, and requires extra work in the vineyard. We sent our crew through the vineyard to cut off the second crop and fruit that was lagging behind. Our goal is make the fruit as uniform as possible. The grapes were hand-picked, fermented in small batches, and aged 9 months in barrel before being blended to the perfect balance.
Intriguing from start to finish, our 2015 Zinfandel is sure to excite the senses. Heady aromas of raspberry, apricot fruit leather, crushed cherries, dried herbs, and baking spice dominate the bouquet of the wine. Juicy and exuberant flavors that parallel the aromas are held together with nicely integrated tannin and acid. Enjoy with earthy or spicy foods.
